Inland Empire United is backing Luis Hernandez because he has spent more than 20 years helping Ward 6 families, seniors, young people, and people with disabilities get the opportunities and support they deserve. He serves as Vice Chair of the Riverside Board of Ethics, which means he’s already in city government holding leaders accountable. He’s running because too many families feel unheard, too many neighborhoods feel overlooked, and too many decisions are made without the transparency our community deserves. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Riverside Board of Ethics— meaning he’s already inside city government, holding leaders accountable.
Housing is one of the top reasons we’re endorsing Luis. Families in Ward 6 are being squeezed out of their homes, and Luis is committed to cutting through the red tape that slows down affordable housing projects and to strengthening protections for renters so they can stay in their homes. He also wants to move quickly on projects that are already ready to go , because the housing crisis can’t wait for slow bureaucracy. Luis knows that housing is about more than just rent—it’s about safety and fair costs. He will crack down on corporate slumlords like PAMA Management that let buildings fall apart while overcharging local families.
We back Luis in part because he approaches public safety in a way that actually works long-term: by building trust, investing in young people, and improving the basic infrastructure — like lighting and safe parks — that makes neighborhoods feel safe in the first place. He also believes first responders need real tools and real accountability to do their jobs well.
This is one of our core reasons for backing Luis. He wants to open up real career pathways in tech, the trades, and clean energy for Ward 6 residents. He’s also a strong supporter of union apprenticeship programs that give students and adults access to good-paying, career-building opportunities — not just whatever entry-level position happens to be available. We need city leadership that fights for the kind of jobs that actually change families’ lives.
We support Luis in part because he has made fixing basic infrastructure a real priority, not an afterthought. He is committed to prioritizing repairs, accessibility upgrades, and long-term planning that keeps Ward 6 safe and functional for everyone — whether you walk, bike, or drive. Working families shouldn’t have to navigate broken sidewalks and pothole-damaged cars just to get through their week.
This is one of the most important reasons we are endorsing Luis. He already serves as Vice Chair of the Riverside Board of Ethics — his current job is to hold city government accountable and make sure decisions are made with transparency. He is not making promises about ethics from the outside; he is already doing that work from the inside. We trust him because he has already proven it.
Luis has spent more than 20 years working alongside people with disabilities, including young people navigating the education system. He is a strong advocate for making sure students with special needs get the support they deserve. He also wants to invest in mentorship, arts, and hands-on learning programs that keep young people in Ward 6 engaged and building toward real futures. Our kids deserve more than just a classroom.
Inland Empire United Action Fund is proud to support Luis Hernandez. He is also backed by local community leaders, disability rights advocates, and the many seniors and families he has served over the past two decades. These are not people who just read a flier — they are people who have worked with Luis and seen his dedication up close. That kind of grassroots support is what real community trust looks like.
